Welcome to the Jurczak Lab

The Jurczak Lab is an externally-funded basic science and translational research program that is primarily interested in the relationship between overnutrition and the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases, such as fatty liver, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. We are more specifically interested in how excess nutrition or metabolic substrate supply to the mitochondria affects mitochondrial respiratory capacity and, in turn, cellular metabolism and signaling, to impact cellular function. The Jurczak Lab employs a variety of in vivo and ex vivo approaches in transgenic mouse models and cell culture, and specializes in using high-resolution respirometry and isotope tracers to measure mitochondrial respiration and substrate turnover and flux.
